A Speech and Language Assessment includes evaluation of the child’s speech, language and communication skills by observation, collecting the information through parental interview, corelating it by performing informal assessment and administration of formal standardized tests. Who is a speech language pathologist?

Speech language pathologists (SLP) or speech therapists work to prevent, assess, diagnose, and treat speech, language, social communication, cognitive-communication and swallowing disorders in children and adults.

What type of speech, language and communication assessments do we provide?

A receptive language assessment will check how and individual interprets and understands the communication of others words, gestures and facial expressions. An expressive language assessment looks at how an individual conveys information, which could be through words, gestures and facial expressions.

An articulation assessment includes evaluation of accurate production of sounds in various word positions (e.g., initial, medial and final word positions) and indifferent phonetic contexts: sound combinations such as vowel combinations, consonant clusters, blends etc.

A voice assessment is done to identify the cause, symptoms and impact of voice disorder in  children or adults who is having difficulty with their voice.

A fluency assessment is a test that measures a person’s ability to read accurately, quickly and with expression. Fluency assessments are used to screen and monitor progress in reading.

What do we do after a speech and language assessment?

Speech and language assessment provide detailed information of the specific aspects of speech and language skills in children and adults based on the assessment report. Then  the speech therapist will set the targets that has to be acquired for the child and use various techniques/ approaches to achieve them during the speech and language therapy.
